ATTENDANCE
Call the Higley High School Attendance Hotline at 480.279.7311 to report all absences. Students must have a parent or guardian sign them out in order to leave campus early. The attendance line is a 24 hour voicemail, so you may leave a voicemail anytime.

ABSENCES
A parent is expected to report any absence by phone (preferably prior to the absence) to attendance. To excuse an absence, a parent/guardian must call within 24 hours following the absence.  All absences not verified by a parent/guardian or authorized by an administrator will remain unexcused. No changes will be made to attendance after 24 hours. Please check ParentVue on a daily basis to ensure all absences are updated. If a student or parent feels the student was marked absent incorrectly, please have the student talk to their teacher about the absence.  The teacher will take care of it through the attendance office.  All absences excused by a doctor’s note, court paperwork, college visit verification, etc. must be given to the attendance specialist on the student’s first day back to school after that absence.

ALL ABSENCES MUST BE REPORTED WITHIN 24 HOURS.

Late Arrivals/Tardy to School
We encourage parents to assist students with arriving to school on school.  Please be aware of traffic issues and plan accordingly.  Students who come to class late cause a classroom disruption and disrespect to classmates and teachers.  There are two scenarios for tardy students - please follow the following procedures:

There are two scenarios for tardy students – please follow the following procedures:

With Doctor/Dentist's note - Students go to the attendance office with an doctor note/appointment slip and will be issued an excused pass to class.

Without Doctor/Dentist's note - Students will go the attendance office and receive an unexcused pass to class.

Parents do not need to sign or call in students as the only excused tardy is with a doctor/dentist note.  Students more than 10 minutes late to school will be marked absent for that class.

Early Sign-Out
All students must have a parent/guardian come to the office, present photo ID and physically sign the student out. Higley High School does not release students without a parent/guardian present.  All students must be signed out in the office to excuse an absence.

After School Detention: (ASD) - Timeliness and preparedness are vital to ensuring student academic success. Throughout the day, students may be assigned ASD by their teachers for the following reasons: tardiness, missing homework, and unpreparedness for class. Students assigned ASD will serve it the following day in order for students to notify to their parents and make transportation arrangements.

Health Office:  Any student who is ill should get a pass from their teacher to see the health aide. The health aide will contact the parent if the student needs to go home. If a parent hears from the student that they are sick and wants to be released from school the parent should instruct their child to the health aide's office or call her directly at 279-7315.

Modified Schedule Days:  On days such as early release, testing, or assembly days, EVIT students are not excused from their Higley classes unless the parent excuses them. EVIT does not communicate their attendance to us, and they still have classes on our campus that they are to attend.

For the protection of our students, no student will be called to the office to await pick up.  Please allow ample time for the sign out procedure.
